Government

Nashville and Davidson County have a single government encompassing more than 500,000 people and 533 square miles of land. A mayor, a vice-mayor and a 40-member legislative council govern the Metropolitan area.

Voter Registration

  • To vote in Tennessee, you must be at least 18 years of age by the election date, you must be a citizen of the United States, and you cannot have been convicted of a felony.
  • To vote in an election, you must register at least 30 days in advance and provide a street address, a birth date and place, and a Social Security number.
  • Registration may be done at the Election Commission's office, at the driver's license office, at certain government offices, or by mail. Forms are also available at public libraries and post offices.
