Seat Belts

All passengers must wear seat belts; children under 4 must be restrained in a safety seat.

Liquor Laws

The legal drinking age in the state of Tennessee is 21. Beer is sold at grocery stores, convenience stores, and drug stores. Hard liquor and wine are sold at package stores. Bars are allowed to stay open until 3 a.m. seven days a week. No alcohol is sold before Noon on Sundays. Tennessee has very strict DUI ("Driving Under the Influence") laws. The penalty for a first offense may include a jail sentence, probation, court costs, a fine, and loss of driver's license for a year.

Marriage Licenses

Both applicants for a marriage license in Davidson County are required to appear in person at the County Clerk's Office. The fee for the license is $31 and must be paid in cash. Parental consent is necessary for those 16 or 17 years of age. Anyone between 16 and 21 years must show proof of age in the form of a birth certificate. For more information, call 615-862-6050.

Public Transportation

Libraries

The Public Library of Nashville and Davidson County has 18 branch locations in the Metropolitan area. The main library and resource center is located at 225 Polk Avenue. Some of the special features the libraries offer include a Talking Library for the blind, Dial-In Access from your computer, and special services for the hearing impaired. Pet Information

  • Tennessee requires that dogs be confined to its owner’s property and some areas have leash laws. Contact the local law enforcement office to find out the specific laws in your area.
